Govee Light Options for Permanent Outdoor Installations
Govee Models, Features & Where to Buy
There are several Govee lights to choose from when looking at an outdoor installation. Govee offers a variety of options to fit different needs and budgets, all controllable by an app for a variety of preformatted or custom color scenes, programmable down to the individual light. This article will focus on the permanent LED lights typically used for rooflines. Lights are spaced along a wire (as opposed to “strip lights”) and can create a triangular or color wash effect, with the level of color wash affected by the distance installed from the house. Whether you are going to install yourself or hire a professional Govee installer, it is important to understand which lights will best serve your purpose. These lights will be on your house for years, so choose one you will be happy with for the long term!
Lights are available at Govee website, Govee app, amazon and retail and box stores. Retail stores sell versions that are similar to options available direct from Govee or on Amazon, but have different names (for example, Costco sells the “Elite” version which is comparable to Outdoor Lights 2).
If buying online and working with a professional Govee installer, ask if they have an affiliate link. Also note that pricing, sales and inventory vary based on where you buy even between the Govee website and the Govee app.
Warranty varies but if buying online, be sure to save your order number, receipt and email used to purchase, as these will be needed when accessing support or “Rapid Replacement” through the Govee app. It is not recommended to purchase through an installer because if you need to use your warranty, you are dependent on them for this information.
Lights come in a choice of white or black cable. If you need a different color to blend into your house or would like to hide the wires altogether, consider a track system. More info on mounting options in an upcoming article!
1. Govee RGBIC Permanent Outdoor Lights
This is Govee’s baseline outdoor permanent light offering, good for basic applications not needing cutting/splicing, and for use with light colored walls, although not as bright as the more recent offerings.
2. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights 2/ “Elite”
This version offers brighter LEDs and is a great option for simple straight line installations.
3. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights PRO
The PROs are the top of the line permanent outdoor lights, ideal for complex installations but a great option for any installation with the brighter lights, better white light, and higher waterproof rating for the power adapter. If you need over 150 feet, this is your only option (unless you do 2 of the short versions and synch them in the app). Although a bit higher priced, if you divide that cost over the number of years you will use the lights, it may be worth your investment to enjoy the extra features.
4. Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights Prism
The Prism version was released in Sept 2025. Updates to this article to include Prism forthcoming!
